What is airsoft?
Posted: DJ-Nike @ Sun May 20, 2007 1:10 pm
Question:
What is airsoft all about?

Answer:
Airsoft is very similar in nature to paint balling except Airsoft
uses full scale replica guns that fire 6mm plastic ball bearings
(BB's). The game works on a team basis, two or more teams will
compete within a combat zone trying to complete a
predetermined mission. This may range from simply trying to
eliminate your enemy, defending and holding an area, capturing
a flag, resolving a hostage situation to acting as a lone sniper. In
any given day there is sufficient time to run approximately 5-9
games, thus providing something different with every visit. Each
player has one life (unless stated at the start of a game) and once
hit the player is out of that game and should return to the safe
zone. If a player is shot within the first 5 minutes of play they will
wait at the safe zone for 5 minutes and then be allowed back into
play. Marshals patrol the game zone to ensure all rules are being
followed and that players are not cheating i.e. they are dying
when shot. The game relies upon the honesty of the players (or
very big marshals).

Will playing airsoft hurt?
Posted: DJ-Nike @ Sun May 20, 2007 1:10 pm
Question:
When you get shot by a BB will it hurt ?

Answer:
The plastic 6mm ball bearings will not hurt any protected area of skin if the
equipment is being used correctly. I would advice bringing gloves with you if the day is cold as bb's hitting cold hands may sting a fraction.

How do you know if you have been shot?
Posted: DJ-Nike @ Sun May 20, 2007 1:09 pm
Question:
When somone is shooting in my direction how can I tell if I have been hit?

Answer:
If hit by 15 well aimed bb's you will be aware that you've been hit. However in
order to insure players are honest a team of marshals operate within the game
zone at all times. If players contest a kill simply call a marshal over and explain the situation. If in dispute the marshal will either send both players n opposite directions or if you have already been suspecting of cheating you will be removed from that game. Persistent cheaters will be asked to leave the site.

If you are shot within the first 5-10 minutes of play you will return to the safe zone and be allowed back into the game after a 5 minute break. if 3/4 of the players are eliminated within a very short space of time that game will be called to an end and another started with all players back in play. Thus honesty will not keep you out of a game for long.

Are there any guns to hire ?
Posted: DJ-Nike @ Sun May 20, 2007 1:09 pm
Question:
When I visit the site will there be any guns for hire that I could use, and how would they work ?

Answer:
The guns for hire are fully automatic electric airsoft rifles made by Mauri. The
guns can fire a single shot or be set on full auto where they will fire a burst of about 15 shots if the trigger is held for a while. The guns fire at 295 feet per second over a range of approximately 80-100 feet (depending upon model).
The following guns are available to hire:
  • M4A1 (Standard American issue rifle) with a magazine capacity of either 190/300.
  • FA-MAS (Weapon used by French special forces) with a magazine capacity of
    300.
  • AK47 / AK74 (Russian made Assualt Rifle)
  • G3SAS (Shortened version of the G3 battle rifle)

Note: If you would like to pre-book a particular gun you must ask prior to the
day of play. There are a total of 20 hire guns available. Thus limiting the total number of players requiring hire equipment to 20

Can I bring my own Gun/Ammo
Posted: DJ-Nike @ Sun May 20, 2007 1:08 pm
Question:
Can I bring my own Gun/Ammo to the site when i visit?

Answer:
Yes, though they must fall within the site rules. Games can also be
tailored towards certain guns if sufficient players have them on site. Guns are chrono'd on site with .20g ammo.

All rentals guns must use ammo supplied be Raven's Nest, this ensures the highest quality ammo is used with hire guns and any faults can not be traced to poor quality/dirty ammo. Ammo may only be fired once, anybody caught re-firing used ammo will be asked to leave the site.

What style of games do you play?
Posted: DJ-Nike @ Sun May 20, 2007 1:06 pm
Question:
When the games are played is there any style in which they are played in.

Answer:
Games will vary. The basics could include:

Standard Two team combat. One team hides on site in defensive positions whilst
team two has to hunt them down. Wining team is the team with players still in play after 45 minutes.

Flag defence. Each team has a flag which it can place anywhere with in the
combat zone. Each team has to defend its own flag whilst trying to capture the
enemies.

Hostage capture/defend. One team has a hostage which it must defend in order
to win the game, the other team must capture the hostage in order to win.

Target hunt. One team elects one of its members as a target, this player must be
defended at all costs, the other team simply has to find and eliminate the target.

Sniper hunt. This game has uneven teams. One team (usually of players who have
played before) have a number of snipers which the enemy must eliminate, the
snipers have a guard team which must protect the snipers.

There are many other game possibilities including games geared towards
particular types of weapons, eq pistols verses rifles games. Games where players
have to find objects with in the combat zone in order to play, such as hunt the
ammo/magazine.

It is also possible for players to suggest games on the day if they have a
particular game they wish to try. Game times will vary from 30-45 minutes
depending upon the number and skill of players. An average day should allow for
around 5 games.

Is there any special days?
Posted: DJ-Nike @ Sun May 20, 2007 1:06 pm
Question:
Is there a special day for airsoft that I should look out for when planning to visit ?

Answer:
It is intended that teams will be formed of around 5 players who can join
Raven's Nest as members, which will entitle them to cheaper ammo and access to
team event days. Team event days are planned to be held once a month where
teams will compete against one another to form a league. It is also hoped that
outings to other sites can be organised where a team will be able play against
other teams in other environments.
Night Games are also usually run annually before one of the main Sunday events.

Can I bring my own equipment
Posted: DJ-Nike @ Sun May 20, 2007 1:05 pm
Question:
I have alot of Airsoft kit and would like to know if I can bring any of it to the event?

Answer:
Yes you can bring any of your own equipment with you. It is advised that players
bring gloves with them on cold days and in order to protect exposed hands,
scarf's or head raps are also useful.

Feel free to bring your own combat gear. Players may come in rough clothing and player as terrorists, however it is advised that you come as a team so you are not the only terrorist dressed in plain clothing. Sniper weapons are allowed, but contact me mail@ravensairsoft.co.uk first. NO bb grenades. Smoke grenades are allowed
